Kennst du dieses Gefühl nach langer Zeit wieder nach Hause zu kommen, in die Heimat zurückzukehren? Manchmal ergibt es sich im Leben und man findet einen Ort, der zwar offiziell nicht seine Heimat ist, sich aber genauso anfühlt. Ein seltenes Glück, das mir widerfahren ist, als ich vor 3 Jahren zu einem Auslandssemester in Mexiko aufgebrochen bin. Mit vielen Erwartungen, ein wenig Angst und vor allem viel Neugier auf die Monate, die dort auf mich zukommen sollten. Schon nach kurzer Zeit haben mich das Land und besonders die Menschen komplett fasziniert und mich 10.000 Kilometer weit weg von meiner eigentlichen Heimat wie zu Hause fühlen lassen.
Do you know that feeling of coming back home after a long time, this feeling of going back to your hometown? Some people incidentally find a place that is not officially their ‚home‘ but feels exactly like that. A rare luck that I experienced when I did a semester abroad in Mexico three years ago. I went there with so many expectations, some worries but most of all so much curiosity about the upcoming months that I would live there. In a short time the country and especially the people fascinated me entirely and made me feel like home 10.000 kilometers away from my true hometown.
Nach den Monaten voller Freude, neuer Erfahrungen und diesem ganz besonderem Mexiko-Zauber war das Zurückkehren in die richtige Heimat, nach Deutschland, ein schwererer Schritt als anfangs gedacht. Das mexikanische Lebensgefühl, das ich so lieben gelernt hatte, ließ sich nur bedingt mit in den „neuen alten“ Alltag nehmen und die Sehnsucht nach diesem Herzensort war manchmal unerträglich. Deshalb war es auch für niemanden aus meinem Umfeld überraschend, dass ich immer wieder nach Mexiko, meinem Land voller Glück, zurückgekehrt bin. Und jedes Mal dieses besondere Gefühl von Heimat sofort wieder gespürt habe.
After these months full of joy, new experiences und this really special Mexico-magic, returning to Germany, my actual home country, was a very hard step for me. Harder than I had thought at the beginning of my journey. It was quite difficult to integrate the Mexican way of life that I loved so much in my ‚new old‘ daily life and the nostalgia for my place of joy was really unbearable sometimes. For this reason it was no surprise at all that I returned to Mexico, my country full of happiness, again and again. And every time I felt this special feeling of being at home immediately.
Was macht dieses Gefühl nun aus? Es ist zum Großteil diese Leichtigkeit, mit der Mexikaner durch den Tag gehen. Die Beziehungen zu anderen Menschen sind tausend Mal wichtiger als sonstige Verpflichtungen und die Familie geht über alles. Im Umgang innerhalb der Familie und des Freundeskreises findet man eine einzigartige Herzlichkeit und Liebe. Das macht es jedem in Mexiko einfach, sich heimisch und willkommen zu fühlen. Natürlich spielt auch der Begriff ‚Glück’ in Mexiko eine große Rolle. Nur selten definieren Mexikaner Glück über materielle Dinge. Auch hier stehen die Familie und die Freunde an erster Stelle. Auch das Realisieren und Erfüllen von den eigenen Träumen und Selbstverwirklichung sind wichtige Bausteine auf dem Weg zum persönlichen Glück. Diese Werte und die positive Einstellung zum Leben haben meine Persönlichkeit und meine Definition von Glück ganz entscheidend geprägt.
What is so special about this feeling? For the most part it’s this ease that Mexicans have in their everyday life. The relationships with other people are more important than any other obligation and family is the most important thing in life. Relationships within the family or with friends are characterized by an incredible kind of warmth and heartiness. That’s why it’s so easy to feel homelike and welcome in Mexico immediately. The term ‚happiness‘ is also very important. Only a few people define their happiness with material stuff. The family and the friends loom large, also the fulfillment of your personal dreams and self realization. These values and a positive thinking on life left a mark on my definition of happiness in a really special and unique way.
So sind die Reisen nach Mexiko auch jedes Mal wieder Trips zu mir selbst, bei denen ich mein oft gestresstes Alltags-Ich hinter mir lasse, die mexikanische Leichtigkeit in mein Leben lasse und die Wochen bewusst nutze, um mir wieder klarer zu machen, was das Leben eigentlich ausmacht. Ich kann es jedem nur ans Herz legen dieses wunderschöne und so vielfältige Land zu besuchen und diese einzigartige Kultur kennenzulernen. Egal welche Art von Urlaub ihr normalerweise bevorzugt, Mexiko kann euch von wunderschönen Stränden auf der Yucatan Halbinsel über beeindruckende Ruinen und Kulturstätten als auch Wüstenlandschaften, Hochgebirge oder tropisches Klima alles bieten; und wer ein absolutes Großstadt-Abenteuer erleben will, dem lege ich Mexico-City nahe. Für mich persönlich die faszinierendste Stadt der Welt. Wenn ich eure Neugier geweckt habe dann wagt die Reise, ihr werdet es sicher nicht bereuen.

This is why the trips to Mexico are also journeys to my true self each time where I can leave my stressed daily-life-me behind and where I enjoy the Mexican flow to use this weeks to think clearly about the purpose of life. I can really recommend a trip to Mexico to everyone of you. It’s such a beautiful country with so many facets and a unique culture. It doesn’t matter which type of vacation you normally prefer, Mexico offers you incredible beaches in Yucatan, impressive ruins and cultural sites as well as deserts, highlands or tropical climate. And if you are looking for the ultimate big city adventure you will love Mexico-City. In my opinion it’s the most fascinating city in the whole wide world. If you are curious about Mexico now then just book your trip, I am sure you won’t regret it.
